5 min read

Recommended Materials

  • Baking soda
  • Powerful vacuum cleaner
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide (for stains)
  • Clean cloths
  • Lavender or tea tree essential oil (optional)

Steps to follow

Step 1

Take advantage of a sheet change to clean your mattress. Start by removing all bedding and wash it at 60°C to kill dust mites.

Step 2

Vacuum thoroughly over the entire surface of the mattress, including sides and seams, to suck up dust, dead skin, and dust mites.

Step 3

For yellow stains or sweat: mix a little hydrogen peroxide with baking soda to form a paste. Apply to the stain, let dry, then brush and vacuum. Always test on a small area first.

Step 4

To deodorize and sanitize deeply: sprinkle baking soda generously over the entire mattress. You can add a few drops of tea tree (antifungal) or lavender (soothing) essential oil mixed with the baking soda beforehand.

Step 5

Let the baking soda sit for as long as possible, ideally all day. It will absorb moisture and neutralize odors.

Step 6

Vacuum again very carefully to remove all baking soda. Your mattress will be fresher and healthier.

Step 7

Leave the bedroom wide open during the operation to evacuate residual moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to remove a blood stain ?

Always use COLD water (hot water cooks the blood and sets it). Dab with a mixture of cold water + salt or cold water + effervescent aspirin.

Should I flip my mattress ?

Yes, rotating (head/foot) or flipping (summer/winter side) your mattress every 3 to 6 months prevents sagging and airs the fibers.

Precautions

  • Never soak a mattress, internal moisture promotes mold which is very difficult to dislodge.
  • Let dry well before putting sheets back on.
