Clean and maintain your food processor (blade, bowl)

Thermomix, Magimix, Companion... These robots are expensive, take care of them.

5 min read

Recommended Materials

  • Bottlebrush
  • White vinegar
  • Eggshells (tip)

Steps to follow

Step 1

The investment: A food processor (Thermomix, Companion, Magimix, etc.) is expensive (more than €1000). You have to take care of it so that it lasts 10 or 20 years. The weak point is often the blade axis and the motor.

Step 2

Express cleaning (Self-cleaning): Just after emptying the bowl, pour 500ml of water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Run a 'Turbo' or max speed cycle for 10 seconds. The centrifugal force will project the soapy water everywhere and remove 90% of the residue.

Step 3

Burnt bottom: If you have made caramel or béchamel which has stuck to the bottom, do not scrape it with a green sponge (it scratches the stainless steel). Sprinkle with baking soda, add a little water to make a paste, and leave for 30 minutes. Rub gently, it goes away on its own.

Step 4

The knives (Caution): Disassemble the knives to clean underneath. Use a bottle brush to get between the blades without cutting yourself. Check that the seal is in place. Do not leave the knife block soaked in water overnight (risk of rust on the ball bearing).

Step 5

The eggshell tip: To clean very dirty blades without rubbing: put water at the level of the knives and throw 2 or 3 empty eggshells into the bowl. Mix at speed 6 for a few seconds. The shells will act as a natural abrasive and scratch the blades.

Step 6

The engine block: A wipe with a damp sponge is enough. If liquid has leaked inside (through the hole in the shaft), unplug everything, turn the device over to empty, and let it dry for 48 hours before turning it back on (otherwise short circuit).

Precautions

  • Unplug before cleaning the motor unit.
  • Thoroughly dry the connectors under the bowl.
