5 min read

Recommended Materials

  • White vinegar
  • Hot water
  • Quality window squeegee
  • Washer or sponge
  • Special glass microfiber cloth
  • Bucket

Steps to follow

Step 1

Choose the right time: never wash your windows in direct sunlight. The heat dries the product too quickly, leaving inevitable streaks.

Step 2

Start by dusting the window frame and the glass itself with a dry cloth. Removing the bulk of the dust prevents creating mud.

Step 3

Prepare your mixture in a bucket: 2/3 hot water and 1/3 white vinegar. It is an economical, ecological, and very effective solution to dissolve grease and pollution.

Step 4

Dip your washer (or a large sponge) into the mixture and scrub the entire surface of the glass generously. Insist on stains (bird droppings, insects).

Step 5

Pass the squeegee. This is the key step. Start from the top and go down making 'S' shapes (American method) or in vertical strips. The important thing is to wipe the squeegee blade with a clean cloth between each pass so as not to redeposit dirty water.

Step 6

Use a dry and clean microfiber cloth to wipe remaining drops on the frame edges and in corners. Do not rub the middle of the glass if the squeegee has done its job well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is newspaper really effective ?

Newspaper ink used to have polishing properties, but modern inks are different. A good squeegee and microfiber are safer and more effective today.

Can I use dish soap ?

Yes, a drop of dish soap in the water helps the squeegee glide, but don't put too much or it will leave a greasy film.

Precautions

  • Be careful if using a stepladder or ladder, ensure its stability.
