Cleaning a workshop glass partition without leaving streaks

Glass partitions have lots of small panes. The squeegee is often too big. What is the fastest technique?

5 min read

Recommended Materials

  • 2 'special glass' microfiber cloths
  • Hot water
  • White vinegar
  • Small squeegee (optional)

Steps to follow

Step 1

Forget the blue window cleaner and paper towels. On a glass partition with lots of small panes, it takes too much time and leaves lint.

Step 2

The 2 microfiber technique is the best and fastest: prepare two 'special glass' microfiber cloths (tight weave, not terry).

Step 3

Prepare a bucket of very hot water with a glass of white vinegar. No dish soap (or very little) to avoid having to rinse.

Step 4

Soak the first microfiber in the vinegar water. Wring it out well (it should be damp, not dripping).

Step 5

Wipe it over a pane to clean and degrease. Scrub the corners well.

Step 6

IMMEDIATELY after, wipe with the second microfiber (dry and clean) to wipe and polish. Do not let air dry, this is the secret to having no streaks.

Step 7

Do pane by pane. It's fast, effective and the result is impeccable.

Step 8

If you have a small precision squeegee (15cm), you can use it, but watch out for drips on the metal uprights at the bottom of each pane, which you will have to wipe anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to clean black metal uprights ?

With the damp microfiber, quite simply. Dry them well to avoid rust (if it is raw steel) or white limescale marks.

The steam cleaner ?

It is practical for scrubbing the corners of glass partitions, but the steam condenses into water which runs down the glass. Provide plenty of dry cloths to wipe the dirty water at the bottom.

Precautions

  • Do not use abrasive products on painted metal.
  • Be careful when climbing on the stepladder.
