Recommended Materials

  • Connected Lock (Nuki, Yale, Tedee...)
  • Screwdriver
  • Smartphone
  • Disengageable cylinder (often required)

Steps to follow

Step 1

First check that your door is compatible. Most connected locks ('retrofit' type) are installed over the existing key inside. A 'disengageable' cylinder is imperatively required (which can be opened from the outside with a key even if another key is engaged inside).

Step 2

Installation is simple and without drilling: fix the mounting plate on the inner cylinder (screwed on the cylinder or glued on the door), insert your key in the lock, and clip the connected lock motor over the key.

Step 3

Calibrate the lock via the mobile app: follow the guide step by step. The lock will lock and unlock the door several times to learn the number of turns needed and feel the bolt resistance.

Step 4

Configure access: give 'virtual keys' to your family. You can create temporary or recurring access (for example for the cleaning lady on Tuesday from 9am to 12pm, or for a friend coming to water plants during your holidays).

Step 5

Automatic opening (Auto Unlock) is the magic function: the lock detects your arrival (Bluetooth + GPS combination) and opens the door automatically when you are in front, arms full of groceries. No need to search for keys anymore.

Step 6

Think about the WiFi Bridge: most locks are Bluetooth only. To control them remotely (open to a delivery person from the office), you often need to add a small box plugged into a socket that links the lock and your Internet box.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have no battery on my phone ?

Don't panic. You can still use your traditional physical key from the outside (hence the importance of the disengageable cylinder). Some models also have a keypad or fingerprint reader as an option.

Is it hackable ?

The encryption protocols used are the same as those of banks. The risk of digital hacking is infinitely lower than the risk of a burglar forcing your door with a crowbar.

Precautions

  • Do not leave the spare key under the doormat.
  • Monitor the lock battery level (the app warns you weeks in advance).
