Maintaining your dishwasher so that it cleans well

Dull dishes, white marks, residue? It's not the pellet, it's the maintenance.

Recommended Materials

  • White vinegar
  • Toothpick
  • Regenerating salt
  • Rinse aid

Steps to follow

Step 1

The filter (The heart of the problem): It's the cylindrical thing at the bottom of the tank. Unscrew it (often 1/4 turn). Take it out. Separate the fine filter from the large filter. Rinse everything under hot water, brushing with an old toothbrush to remove congealed fat and seeds. If this filter is dirty, the dirty water recirculates onto your clean dishes. To do every week.

Step 2

The washing arms (propellers): They rotate to project the water. Sometimes lemon seeds or pieces of glass block the small holes. Unclip or unscrew the arms (it's easy). Run them under water. If a hole is blocked, use a toothpick to pop the intruder out. Check that they turn freely by hand.

Step 3

Door seals: Wipe a damp sponge with vinegar over the black seal all around the door. This is where mold and bad odors take hold.

Step 4

The big cleaning (Descaling): Once every 3 months, run an empty cycle at maximum temperature (70°C). Instead of the tablet, pour a bowl of white vinegar directly into the tank after the initial draining (wait 2 minutes for the machine to finish draining the water from the beginning). It descales and deodorizes.

Step 5

Salt and Rinse Aid: Even if you use 'All in 1' or '3 in 1' tablets, it is STRONGLY recommended to add regenerating salt (to soften the water and protect the machine from limescale) and rinse aid (for streak-free drying). Adjust the water hardness according to your municipality.

Frequently Asked Questions

My dishes are white ?

It is often a layer of limescale (lack of salt) or a layer of salt (salt tank cap not properly closed). Run a wet finger over it and taste: salty = poorly closed cap. Not salty = limestone.

Precautions

  • Do not use dishwashing liquid (it foams and overflows!).
  • Check that the arms rotate freely before throwing.
