Where to hide your valuables? Untraceable hiding places
Burglars know the sock drawer and the mattress. Be smarter than them.
Recommended Materials
- Fake electrical outlet
- Hollow book
- Double-bottomed tin can
Steps to follow
Step 1
Places to AVOID absolutely (known to all thieves): The bedside table drawer, under the mattress, in the pile of laundry in the wardrobe, in a vase, behind a painting, in the toilet tank, in the freezer (too classic).
Step 2
The child's room: Burglars rarely go there because it is often messy and there are noisy toys on the floor. Hiding something at the bottom of a toy chest, in a Lego box or inside a plush toy (unstitched then restitched) is very clever.
Step 3
The kitchen (the pantry): An empty and cleaned tin can (like ravioli or peas) placed in the middle of others in the provision cupboard. A fake opaque mayonnaise jar at the back of the fridge. An opened cereal box.
Step 4
Fake technical installations: A fake electrical outlet (which is actually a small wall safe), a fake ventilation grille screwed to the wall, a fake plinth that unclips, a fake PVC pipe in the basement.
Step 5
The attic or cellar: In an old dusty cardboard box marked 'Baby clothes 1990' or 'Broken Christmas decoration'. Thieves look for what is easy to resell (high-tech, jewelry), they don't rummage through old boxes.
Step 6
The decoy technique: Leave a little cash (€50) and some costume jewelry clearly visible on the bedroom dresser. The hurried thief will take that, think he has found the loot and maybe leave without looking further.
Frequently Asked Questions
The safe ?
Yes, it's good, BUT it must be IMPERATIVELY SEALED to the load-bearing wall or floor (concrete) with chemical anchors. Otherwise, thieves take it as is to open it quietly elsewhere.
Precautions
- Don't forget where you hid your stuff!
- Don't talk about it to children (they talk).
