Install a rainwater collector for the garden

Drinking water is expensive and becoming scarce. Rainwater is free and better for plants (no lime/chlorine).

Recommended Materials

  • Overhead tank (300L to 1000L)
  • Gutter collector with filter
  • Base (to raise)

Steps to follow

Step 1

Why recover? : Drinking water is becoming more and more expensive. The rainwater is free, soft (lime-free) and at room temperature, which plants love. A 100m² roof recovers around 60,000 liters of water per year (depending on region)!

Step 2

The equipment: An overhead tank (300L, 500L or 1000L), a filtering gutter collector, and a base to raise the tank.

Step 3

Installation: 1. Place the tank on stable and flat ground, near a gutter downspout. Raise it with the base or concrete blocks (to be able to put a watering can under the tap). 2. Drill the gutter at the height of the top of the tank. 3. Install the collector in the gutter and connect it to the tank with the pipe provided.

Step 4

How it works: When it rains, the water goes down the gutter, passes into the collector which filters the leaves, and fills the tank. When the tank is full, the water rises in the pipe and returns to the gutter (automatic overflow). No overflow!

Step 5

Use: Watering the garden, washing the car, cleaning the terrace. Forbidden to drink it or use it for showering (bacteria).

Step 6

Winter (Attention): As soon as the first frosts occur, open the tap to empty the tank (or leave it open). If the water freezes in it, the ice will burst the plastic and your tank will be sent to the trash.

Frequently Asked Questions
