Install aerators on taps to reduce water bills
Reduce your water consumption by 50% without losing comfort. The most profitable investment.
Recommended Materials
- Hydro-saving aerators
- Adjustable wrench (or pliers)
- Cloth
Steps to follow
Step 1
The (Magic) Principle: A standard faucet delivers approximately 12 liters of water per minute. A hydro-saving aerator injects air into the water and reduces the flow to 5 or 6 liters per minute. The jet seems just as powerful and comfortable, but you consume 50% less water (and therefore 50% less energy to heat it!).
Step 2
Unscrew the old one: Unscrew the chrome ring at the end of the faucet spout (counterclockwise). If it is blocked by limescale, use multi-grip pliers and protect the chrome with a thick cloth so as not to scratch it.
Step 3
Clean: Remove the old gasket and the old filter (often filled with small limestone stones). Clean the faucet threads with a little white vinegar if necessary.
Step 4
Install the new one: Place the new gasket provided in the ring, then the new aerator (pay attention to the direction, grill facing down).
Step 5
Screw back: Screw the ring by hand as tightly as possible. Give a very small squeeze of pliers (1/4 turn) to lock, but not too hard (otherwise you will crush the joint).
Step 6
The test: Turn on the water. If water squirts from the top of the ring, the seal is incorrectly fitted or not tight enough.
Frequently Asked Questions
On the bathtub faucet ?
NO! To fill a bath or a bucket, you want maximum flow (otherwise the water cools before the bath is full). Do not put an eco bubbler on the bathtub.
Male or Female ?
Look at your faucet. If the screw thread is on the outside, you need a female aerator. If the thread is inside, you need a Male.
Precautions
- Measure the diameter before purchasing (Male or Female).
- Descale regularly.
